The Grizzly Den Cabin, located in the pristine Sugarbowl-Grizzly Den Provincial Park, BC, represents the pinnacle of backcountry building. Designed as a two-story retreat for backcountry enthusiasts, this cabin was engineered to withstand the challenges of remote construction. Winton Homes supplied the prefabricated floors, walls, and trusses, all of which were airlifted by helicopter to the rugged build site. Once delivered, the skilled team at Robson Design Build meticulously assembled the cabin on-site, ensuring every detail met the highest standards of quality and precision.

Winton Homes is proud to have played a pivotal role in both the original construction and the rebuild of the University of Northern British Columbia's Wood Innovation Research Laboratory (WHIRL).

Project Overview

When an unexpected explosion occurred in a neighboring building on August 22, 2023, it sent shockwaves through WHIRL, followed by fire and flooding. Despite these challenges, the mass timber structure, including our specially designed 16" deep truss-studded walls, demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Our team was responsible for the original design and supply of roof trusses and walls, and after the incident, we swiftly returned to rebuild the damaged sections using our advanced prefab wall systems. This rapid response and the quality of our design played a critical role in minimizing damage and ensuring the lab was fully operational again within a year.
